Aim to win in 2015 FIBA Asia Championship to be held in China, Gilas Pilipinas team will formally announce its final list for the game.
The team Gilas Pilipinas will be competing 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in China. However, the team claimed to have incomplete list. The team aims to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics Basketball tournament in Rio de Janeiro.
Since 2010, the team represents the Philippines in many international basketball competitions consisting mostly of PBA players. The team serves as the Philippines men’s national basketball team for elite level tournaments, recorded most wins in the Olympics among teams outside the Americas, Europe and Oceania.
The upcoming Olympic qualifying FIBA Asia Championship that will be held in Changsa, China from Sept. 23 to Oct. 3. Gilas Pilipinas national team did some preparation to win the game including basketball practices and completing the final list to compete, consisting valuable players to compete on the said event.
Gilas team manager Butch Antonio stated, “We’ve yet to finalize the list. PBA commissioner Chito Salud is helping out for us to come out with the best team possible.”
Some of its original players declined to join the competition. Tenorio, Ginebra star point guard refused to play citing fatigue. PBA Most Valuable Player JuneMar Fajardo also declined having some injuries that needs temporary care, as well as Ginebra’s forward Japeth Aguilar for being not be ready to health conditions. Pingris and Lassiter left the country for personal matters.
PBA Chairman, Pato Gregorio claimed that if players are injured or must attend to personal priorities, we’ve just got to learn to cope. We’ll try our best to work things out. We’re not closing doors on anyone.
Wanting to have the original list to represent the country, Gilas Pilipinas made its best to finalized the list to compete the game. The members will be formally announce today and will undergo two-month training. The first practice then will be held in Meralco Gym where final member will gather.IMAGE/www.interaksyon.com
