The World Breastfeeding Week, thousands of nursing mother joined the long week celebration.
To promote health benefits towards mother and child, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action organized World Breastfeeding Week. The celebration held annually that runs from August 1 to 7, participated by more hundreds of countries all around the world, thousands of mother were expected to breastfeed their little ones in public for one minute.
With the theme “Breastfeeding and Work, Let’s Make It Work, urge every mother and improve the health of babies around the world. Knowing that through this, the risk of number of diseases in both mothers and babies decreases as well as the risk of respiratory tract infections and diarrhea.
The World Health Organization states, “Breast milk is the ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants; breastfeeding is also an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers.”
Great benefit for mothers, including an increase in time before menstruation and fertility returns, less blood loss following delivery, better uterus shrinkage, weight loss, and less postpartum depression. Also gives long-term health benefits that includes, reduced risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and endometrial cancer.
For infants, this is may probably reduced death incident by reducing diarrhea and infectious diseases and may double its birth weight. However, for some cases certain medications were not recommended during breastfeeding.
The WABA together with its partner in global, regional and national levels aim to empower and support working women. This is to adequately combine work with child-rearing.
