Former police asset killed in a car ambush including businesswoman in Talisay City.
Fritz Cobong, 45 year-old, a former police asset of the Guadalupe died in an ambush at N. Bacalso Avenue, Barangay Lawaan 1, Talisay City. He died instantly after having two gunshot wounds on his chest and left armpit. The ambush happened yesterday morning, August 6, 2015.
Cobong was hired to drive a Nissan Sentra by Lapinid family who have a lending business. Lorna Lapinid, 53 year-old business woman also died after an attacked of two motorcycle riders who fired shots on their car. Maria Luisa Lapinid, 57 year-old, Lorna’s sister-in-law survived in the incident however suffered a gunshot wound in the leg.
In the statement of PO2 Edwin Campomanes, investigator of the Talisay City Police Station, saying, the two Lapinids had hired Cobong, who used to be a taxi driver and a former police asset, to drive them around different churches since Wednesday, when they visited the Birhen sa Lindogon in Simala, Sibonga town.
It was found out that Maria Luisa, sent a big amount to Ormoc City for her business, one reason seen by authorities reason of the said ambush. They had recovered many empty shells used by the gunmen, from a 9-millimeter gun at the scene of the crime.
Head of the Talisay City police, Chief Insp. Germano Mallari, told reporters that the three were on board a tainted Nissan Sentra (XKB-439) after offering prayers in Lipata Church in San Roque Talisay and were on their way to a shrine in Guadalupe, Cebu City.
Thorough investigation of authorities been conducted upon the motives of the ambush. However, police were looking into possibilities that it was a mistaken identity of the former police asset. IMAGE/www.philstar.com
