A bomb explode killed one marine, leaving three others with serious injuries.
A bomb planted in a cooking cylinder burst killing one marine and injured three others yesterday. The pick up truck carrying eight marines from a base in Ban Sompoy damaged upon the explosion, Narathiwat Thursday. The truck was passing in front of a village mosque when militants hiding on the roadside remotely detonated the bomb which is hidden in a garbage can.
A 23 year-old Pvt Kittipong Butsripa was killed on the said incident. Due to the huge explosion, three others had serious injuries, patrol leader Warrant Officer Somchai Thopsee, 40 year-old, Pvt Paskorn Boonmaporn, 22, who sustained serious head injuries from bomb shrapnel and Pvt Nirut Khumpong, 23, sustained minor wounds in back and legs.
Thai police officer Lance Chakrit Chaiseesa stated, the explosive device, installed along a highway route, targeted the soldiers who were on their daily patrol in the Bacho district of Narathiwat Province Thursday morning.
The three wounded were admitted to Bacho Hospital, later transferred to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital. The other one was admitted to intensive care unit due to critical condition and others are already in stable condition and been improving, said Medical workers at Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital.
After the bomb explode, bomb-disposal squad was immediately sent into the crime scene to investigate the incident. Authorities found out a home-made bomb, designed 25kg cooking gas cylinder wired to a communication radio.
Chulabhorn Military Camp, national-security source believed that the attack to be part of ongoing unrest, allegedly carried out by a Bacho-based insurgent cell led by Rormeulee Kajaekaso.
