Typhoon Soudelor approaches Taiwan– On Thursday, The Philippine government issued weather alert as the most powerful typhoon of 2015,reached category 5 super typhoon, Typhoon Soudelor, local name Hanna, approaches the Batanes islands in north Philippines.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, or PAGASA, at 10:00 local time (03:00 GMT) Thursday, Typhoon Soudelor, local name Hanna, with wind speed up to 165 kph (103 mph) and gusts up to 200 kph (124 mph) was 825 km (513 miles) from Basco in Batanes.
The instruments aboard the International Space Station detected sustained wind speeds of 250 km/h around the monster storm’s eye. It is the fifth storm this year to reach that status.The storm officially reached category 5 super typhoon status. Meanwhile in the Philippines, seven people were killed and two are missing in flash floods.
Typhoon Soudelor is expected to strengthen and expand as it approaches Taiwan’s shores, the island’s Central Weather Bureau said. Moving west-northwest at 23 kilometres per hour,Taiwan issued a warning to ships and people working along coastlines to brace for wind and waves as Typhoon Soudelor barrels westward toward the island and eastern China. With the expected landfall of the typhoon on Saturday, Taiwan has started making preparations in advance.
According to report,thousands of fishing vessels and ships were already brought in, and evacuation has started in some of the country’s perimeter islands. The National Weather Service said the typhoon’s eye directly hit Saipan late on Sunday night, with wind gusts reaching 169 kph. It left about 484 island residents in emergency shelters because of damage to their homes. The Taiwan coast guard said two died while one person is missing due to rough waters off the coast of Taiwan’s northeastern Yilan county, the report added.IMAGE/www.philstar.com
