Thursday, a lawyer was shot dead on the spot in an ambush in Mandaue City, Cebu.
- The lawyer killed was identified as Amelie “Am-am” Ocañada-Alegre, 35.
- The incident happen along Catalino Street in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City.
- The lawyer was driving her BMW vehicle when she was shot by two motorcycle-riding gunmen, police said.
The lawyer killed was with Briccio Boholst and an office staff, Antonio Pino who were both recuperating at the University of Cebu Medical Center in Mandaue who were also wounded. SPO4 Marcos Noval Jr. said Boholst sustained a gunshot wound on his leg while Pino suffered one on his stomach, but these have yet to be verified.
According to chief of the Mandaue City Police Office, Seven empty shells from what could be a 9mm pistol were recovered some 50 meters away from the car. “We have initial findings, but we cannot divulge it to you,” he added. He said they have yet to find out the motive of the attack, but he said Alegre was the likely target since she owned the car and the gunman fired at the driver’s side, they have identified witnesses from the crime scene.
Alegre’s mother Marieta, who rushed to the crime scene upon learning of the ambush. She said that her daughter was separated from her husband Ryan, she also said her daughter confided to her that she had been receiving death threats from her husband. Husband’s victim was also invited for questioning.
No one was able to jot down the motorbike’s plate numbers. Noval said there are several angles that they have to look into, including work-related conflicts and personal grudge.
Barangay Looc chief Cesar Cabahug Jr. said he doesn’t think Boholst was the target. Cabahug, Boholst’s uncle, said the lawyer killed is the administrator of their family’s properties, but he does not think it has anything to do with the shooting.IMAGE/JOY TORREJOS
