The new study reveals the benefits taken from drinking two to three daily cup of coffee to fight colon cancer. This could be extremely beneficial for people recovering the said type of cancer, which is considered as the second-leading cause of cancer mortality.
Dr Charles Fuchs, Lead scientist, director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Centre at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in the US, stated, “We found that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of the cancer coming back and a significantly greater survival and chance of a cure.”
Researchers found lowered risks of recurrence and death were found specifically from caffeine in coffee, rather than other coffee components. Benefits and protection was even greater, for those consuming three or four cups of coffee daily. It also suggested, coffee consumption protects other types of cancer such as melanoma skin cancer, liver cancer and advanced prostate cancer.
Dr. Alfred Neugut, a professor of cancer research, medicine and epidemiology at Columbia University and a director of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Cancer Prevention Center said, “People who drink a lot of coffee tend to be high stress, high pressure, intense and compulsive,” “If they have cancer, they’re going to be more obsessive about following all the rules and doing all the things they’re supposed to do. So it may be that coffee itself is playing a physiological role, but it may also be a surrogate marker for you being a compulsive health-conscious good behaver.”
The findings of coffee to fight colon cancer, could possibly help patients suffering from said illness with just a coffee at home. However, through drinking 5 glasses of water a day is always been recommended to a decrease in the risk of colon cancer and adenomatous polyps.
