New study found blood pressure drugs to extend lives of patient suffering from deadly cancer.
Ovarian cancer common for women that starts from the ovary, results in abnormal cells. This cells have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Symptoms include bloating, pelvic pain, and abdominal swelling. Women who have never gave birth, begin ovulation at a younger age or reach menopause at an older age were most to have such disease. Fortunately, new study found blood pressure drugs as potential treatment to ovarian cancer.
Not having children is a risk, for the reason that ovulation is not suppressed due to pregnancy. Risk factors are mostly hormonal in nature. Hormonal birth control, tubal ligation and breastfeeding are factors that decreases risk. Fatality from ovarian cancer is common in North America and Europe than in Africa and Asia.
New study been conducted, found blood pressure drugs to possibly extend and is potential treatment to ovarian cancer patient. Senior researcher Anil K. Sood, MD, professor of gynecologic oncology and cancer biology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston told reporters, Beta-blockers treat a variety of conditions, such as heart disease, high-blood pressure, glaucoma and migraines. They target a receptor protein in heart muscle that causes the heart to beat harder and faster when activated by stress hormones,”
“We have discovered that beta-2 and beta-3 adrenergic receptors are present on many ovarian cancer cells, and play quite important roles in promoting angiogenesis and maybe even the survival of cancer cells.”, “They also trigger signals inside the cancer cells that are relevant for growth. These observations led us to ask whether the drugs that block those kinds of receptors could be important for cutting off the growth-stimulating effects of stress hormones,” Anil K. Sood added, stressing potential treatment to ovarian cancer.
Researchers found that women taking blood pressure drugs may live longer than those who don’t. Certain drug maybe a potential new treatment for the deadly cancer. Scientist revealed, such drugs could extend the lives of women with ovarian cancer by up to four years. It can stop the release of stress hormones that accelerate growth and triggers spreading of cancers. However, medical consultation still recommended to cancer patients. IMAGE/BananaStock / Thinkstock
