A man complaining of earache in the city of Dongguan, in the southern Chinese region of Guangdong Province has live cockroach inside his ear.
- Doctors discovered that the source of his agony was a live cockroach.
- The insect had given birth to 25 babies of live cockroach inside the man ear.
- The man was identified as Mr Li, 19-year-old.
Report said Mr Li recalled that he woke up in the middle of the night with an unbearable itch in his ear that grew increasingly painful. He stuck a finger in his ear and felt a sensation deep inside, no trace of anything unusual Mr Li said.
Yang Jing, a doctor at Chang’an Xiaobian Hospital examined Mr Li, he said he saw an insect-shaped object blocking his ear canal completely, he extracted the female live cockroach from the ear, with the insect measuring 0.3 inches long, then found 25 baby live cockroach inside the ear canal, with doctors assuming the female roach had laid the eggs inside Mr Li’s ear several weeks earlier.
Female cockroaches are sometimes seen carrying egg cases on the end of their abdomens; the egg case of the German cockroach holds about 30 to 40 long, thin eggs in a case called an ootheca. The egg capsule may take more than five hours to lay and is initially bright white in color. The eggs are hatched from the combined pressure of the hatchlings gulping air, the development into adults from egg taking around three to four months. The hatchlings are initially bright white nymphs and continue inflating themselves with air, becoming harder and darker within about four hours. Their transient white stage while hatching and later while molting has led many to claim the existence of albino cockroaches.
According to the doctors of Chang’an Xiaobian Hospital, if Li had not come to the hospital on time, his ear could have been severely damaged. The incident caused severe congestion and a swelling of Li’s right ear and had damaged the skin in the ear canal.IMAGE/TVS1
