The off-duty Chinese policeman had been drinking with some friends and was in route to a karaoke bar when happened upon a 7-month-old girl being taken for a walk by her parents. According to Xinhua, he grabbed the baby out of her father’s arms and hurled her to the ground.
The infant suffered a fractured skull, but is now in stable condition. An official told CNN she may be taken to Beijing for more treatment.
Reports indicate the officer had made a bet with friends that the baby was only a doll just before the assault.
