Real Madrid team strolled to 6-0 away victory against Espanyol on Saturday afternoon, Cristiano Ronaldo became club’s record scorer
Cristiano Ronaldo scored five goals for the away side to aid his team move second on the points table, just two points behind Barcelona. The Portugal forward became record goal scorer in La Liga, scoring 230 goals in the Spanish top flight.
Ronaldo passed Raul’s tally of 228 and is now fourth-highest scorer in the competition’s history. The record-breaking goals have come in just 204 league games for Real Madrid following his move from Manchester United in 2009. The Portuguese captain needed just seven minutes to end his eight-game drought including opening two La Liga games of the season.
The 30-year-old scored the opening goal from Luka Modric’s pass, before adding a second from the penalty spot following a foul by Espanyol defender Victor Alvarez. Former Manchester United star completed his hat-trick by converting a Gareth Bale cross inside the first 20 minutes.
Eight minutes later, Ronaldo assisted Karim Benzema to add a fourth goal for the visitors. Then in the second half Bale again laid on the pass for Ronaldo to strike for the fourth time and make Real Madrid team history. But he was still not done, converting again from inside the area on 80 minutes.
Real Madrid CF boss Rafael Benitez rotated his side by benching Toni Kroos in favor of Casemiro, while injuries to James Rodrigues and Danilo forced him to bring Isco and Dani Carvajal. The La Liga runners up earned a comprehensive win ahead of the Champions League campaign kicking off against Shakhtar Donetsk next week.
The home side supporters were stunned by the performance of Madrid and five-star Ronaldo as they witnessed the humiliating defeat of their team. Espanyol failed to trouble Real Madrid even when they were in second gear in the second half.
The Catalan side’s hapless afternoon was summed up when Salva Sevilla failed to convert from an open goal after goalkeeper Navas had parried Gerard Moreno’s header. Next Saturday, Real Madrid will host Granada hoping to maintain their wining momentum. IMAGE/eruptsports.com
