Bangkok put on Sonic Bang The Ultimate International Music Festival Experience 2013 at Impact Arena on August 24, with over 20,000 people in attendance. The music extravaganza was widely viewed as a success.
The festival featured over 30 bands covering a wide range of styles and genres performing on six different stages. Some of the top acts included Jason Mraz, Pet Shop Boys, Rain, Pitbull, Placebo, Ash, and Owl City Sheppard. It also featured well-known Asian artists such as Epik High (Korea), Scandal (Japan), Love Me Butch (Malaysia), JAM Project (Japan), and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Japan).
In addition, some of the top Thai artists appeared, such as Flure, Slot Machine, Stamp, Tor + Saksit, Scrubb, Room 39, Buddha Bless, Sugar Eyes, Southside, Bai-Toey R-Siam, and Kratae. The festival also featured noted DJs such as DJ Bee Futon, DJ Ono, DJ Jay Montonn, DJ Suharit Siamwalla, DJ Seed Norasate, and many others.
Sponsored by Singha Corporation, the one-day festival made a special effort to attend to the wishes of the largely mainstream Thai crowd in attendence. It was held indoors in the air-conditioned comfort of Impact Arena, and featured numerous off-stage activities going on as well.
Food, drinks, and toilets were in abundance. The stages were a short walk apart, and parking posed no problems. The festival was clearly well-organized.
The biggest crowd pleasers turned out to be Rain, Pitbull, the Pet Shop Boys, and Jason Mraz – in no particular order. Most everyone looks forward to next year’s festival, which is expected to be even bigger and better. Image/Bangkok Post
