Almost two-thirds of Thais believe the real leader and decision maker of the government is the fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, according to a recent Abac opinion poll.
In response to this question, 62.4% said Thaksin Shinawatra, while only 37.6% said his sister and current prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra was the real leader and decision maker, Thai media reported.
The poll was conducted from September 16 to 21 and involved 2,103 people in 17 provinces. It was to gauge public opinion on the country’s real leader and the causes of conflict in Thai society.
A majority of 85.9% said they had been affected by political chaos and economic problems during the past three months.
As for the causes of conflict in Thai society, the highest responses were politicians at 80.3%, law and constitution at 54%, the media at 51.2%, state authorities at 35.8%, and the people in general at 29.7%.
Those believing there are political groups which have the intention of toppling the government were 67.9%, while the remainder did not think so.
Just over 54% said they had no confidence in politicians solving the country’s problems, and 62% said they thought there was a possibility for the country to attain reconciliation, while 38% said there was not. Image/thaizer.com
