Bali, Indonesia — The Philippines Megan Young was crowned Miss World 2013 at the grande finale of the pageant in Bali on Saturday evening.
Miss France Marine Lorphelin was first runner up.

Rounding out the Top 6 were Miss Spain Elena Ibarbia, Miss Brazil Sancler Frantz, and Miss Gibraltar Jessica Baldachino.
English singer Myleene Klass and Mister World 2010 Kamal Ibrahim hosted the coronation night, and featured performances by the British boyband Blue, as well as other cultural numbers.
Before winning the grand final event, Young made a strong showing in winning the Top Model competition, placing fifth in the Beach Fashion tilt, and placing fourth in the Multimedia Contest.
Other preliminary competition winners were the Miss Netherlands Jacqueline Steenbeek for the Sports Challenge, Miss Brazil Frantz for Beach Fashion, Miss India Navneet Dhillon for Multimedia, and Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha for Beauty with a Purpose.
Miss Young did well in the Question and Answer portion of the contest where all six candidates were asked, “Why should you become Miss World?”
After thanking the Indonesian audience in their native tongue, Young then brought up the “core values” of Miss World and talked about how she hoped to embody these “to help society.”
Young was born in the United States and moved to the Philippines at age 10. She is a currently a college student who has been an actress and presenter since she was 15.
It was the first time a candidate from the Philippines had ever won the contest, but they made strong showings the past two years. In the 2011 edition Gwendoline Ruais finished as the 1st runner-up, and in 2012 Queneerich Rehman made the Top 15.
Before that, other Filipinas who placed high included Evangeline Pascual, who placed second in 1973; Ruffa Gutierrez, who finished runner-up in 1993; and Carlene Aguilar, who placed in the Top 15 in 2005.
