Photos of Canadian pop star Justin Bieber being carried on the shoulders of his bodyguards up the Great Wall of China have invoked mockery on social media around the globe.
The photos were posted on the BelieveTourUpdates Twitter page, which has been reporting on Bieber’s world tour.
The 19-year-old singer performed a concert in Beijing on September 29, and was at the Great Wall on September 30, according to the Twitter page.
On China’s microblogging site, one TV presenter referred to Bieber as “xiao pi hai”, a word normally used for Chinese toddlers who wear toilet-training-friendly pants which has become a popular phrase describing someone who is immature.
Some comments were from Canadians begging the United States to adopt Bieber.
A CNN article referred to “the Biebs’ fanatical devotion to privileged behavior”.
