Bangkok, Thailand — A Nigerian football player was arrested at Bangkok’s international airport when an x-ray showed he had 495 grams of cocaine in his stomach, worth 2 million baht (US$64,000) in street value, according to a Bangkok Post report.
A custom’s department official said the man, Mamadou dioulde Diallo, age 30, had landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok on a flight from Ethiopia last Friday.
Security thought he was acting suspiciously, and he was asked to go through security checks.
Diallo told investigators that he played football for a club in Nigeria, and that he had agreed to smuggle drugs for a Nigerian businessman because his mother was sick and his job did not pay enough.
He was charged with possession of illegal drugs and drug smuggling, and was taken to Narcotics Suppression Bureau headquarters for further proceedings. Image/Reuters
