Top 3 cities in the Philippines vie for new 7 wonders of the world title, cities of Cebu, Iloilo and Vigan bested more than 200 other cities to be part of “long list” of 77 revealed by New7Wonders President Bernard Weber October 7.
The long list of 77 is based on the results of online voting which began in March last year. More than 300 cities were initially nominated sent from around the world, from an original roster of 1,200 nominees from 220 countries.
The 77 cities will be trimmed to 28 and will be subjected to online voting by October 21, according to Yahoo News report.
It was the first in a planned series of lists; in 2007 the foundation launched New7Wonders of Nature, which was the subject of voting until Nov. 11, 2011. New7Wonders Cities is the current project, with voting through July 2014
New 7 Wonders of the World (2000-2007) was an initiative started in 2000 as a Millennium project to choose Wonders of the World from a selection of 200 existing monuments.
The popularity poll was led by Canadian-Swiss Bernard Weber and organized by the New7Wonders Foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland, with winners announced on July 7, 2007 in Lisbon.
