Sun Moon Lake is the largest body of water in Taiwan as well as a tourist attraction. It is located in Yuchi, Nantou, which is surrounded by the beautiful lake and home to the Thao tribe, one of the aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. The area itself, particularly around the lake, has many trails for hiking.
Unfortunately, swimming is not permitted in Sun Moon Lake. However, an annual 3-km race called the Swimming Carnival of Sun Moon Lake is usually held around the Mid-Autumn Festival each year. Recently, the number of participants joining the activity has doubled. The accolade is usually accompanied with other festivities like fireworks, laser shows, and concerts.
Boasting the Sun Moon Lake Ropeway or cable car, which is the highlight of the place to its tourists. It is a 1.8 kilometer-long ropeway which is elevated 150 meters over the surface providing every visitor an incredible top view sightseeing experience.
The ropeway connects to the Activity Center, which features the well-known One Piece World, Science Display center, rollercoaster ride, small train ride, U.F.O ride, a variety of water rides and souvenir shops which allows visitors ecstatic fun with different activities.
