Manila, Philippines — At least 20 people were killed and 44 injured when a truck smashed into the back of a passenger bus on a remote downhill road, setting off a succession of crashes, say police.
The accident occurred shortly past midnight, early Saturday morning on a narrow road in Quezon province, some 115 kilometers (72 miles) from Manila.
The bus driver lost control of his vehicle and hit two buses and four vans coming from the opposite direction before turning over, trapping many of the victims, said Atimonan town police chief Jonar Yupio.
Four children, the truck driver, and his assistant were among those killed, according to reports.
Yupio added that it was raining at the time of the accident.
