Myanmar narcotics authorities busted a man with 133 kilograms of heroin on Tuesday in Tachilek town, the largest haul of illicit drugs ever seized along the Thai-Myanmar border in the Chiang Rai area.
The heroin was worth over US$214 million (6.66 billion Thai baht).
The arrest occurred on the Myanmar side of the Mae Sai River across from Thailand’s Mae Sai district.
Authorities observed the man, identified only as Mong-ta from Myanmar, driving a motorbike back and forth from the river bank to an undisclosed location, dropping off a bag with each trip, according to a Bangkok Post report.
Police went in to investigate and discovered 100 slabs of heroin in each bag.
The man refused to tell police who the intended recipients of the drugs were, according to reports. Image/tigermine.com
