Manila — Philippine President Benigno Aquino III and his siblings visited the graves of their parents on Wednesday ahead of All Souls’ Day when the nation commemorates the dead.
The president joined his sisters Maria Elena “Ballsy” Aquino-Cruz, Aurora Corazon “Pinky” Aquino-Abellada, Victoria Elisa “Viel” Aquino-Dee, and Kristina Bernadette “Kris” Aquino as the family gathered in private time for a mass at the tomb of their parents at the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque City.
Aquino is the only son of the late senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. and former president Corazon Aquino.
The assassination of Ninoy on August 21, 1983 sparked anti-Marcos protests that led to his overthrow and put Ninoy’s widow Corazon into the presidency.
Corazon died on August 1, 2009 from colon cancer.
