Chiang Mai, Thailand — The Hollywood film “The Coup” started shooting this week in Chiang Mai, Thailand and runs through Dec 20, said the province’s Public Relations Department.
“The Coup” is about an American family that moves to a new home in an Southeast Asian country and finds itself caught in the middle of a violent coup d’etat, where rebels attack the city they are in.
It is directed by John Erick Dowdle and stars Owen Wilson, Pierce Brosnan and Michelle Monaghan.
The film is scheduled for release in 2014.
It is the first time Chiang Mai has experienced a large-scale film production, according to reports.
