Bangkok, Thailand — Opposition Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban produced a video clip of a ruling Pheu Thai MP telling party supporters that the government’s promise to retreat on the amnesty bill was merely a ploy to convince protesters to go home before efforts to push the bill through are renewed.
Suthep therefore urged anti-amnesty demonstrators to continue with the rallies and not to believe what the government is saying regarding the bill.
The government has made public statements in recent days saying they have decided to back down on the legislation due to the mounting protests.
They said they will not pursue the bill again if the Senate rejects it, and will not use an executive decree either.
The video clip was from Tuesday night where Pheu Thai MP Prasit Chaisrisa was addressing a pro-government rally outside Bangkok, according to Thai media reports.
