Movember — a combination of “mustache” and “November”, is a month-long campaign strategy to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and mental health.
Every November of each year, millions of moustaches grow around the world as men raise funds and conduct awareness campaigns on men’s health issues.
How does that work? Movember, an independent global charity challenges men to grow a moustache for a 30-day period starting in October. Men who join the cause are called “Mo Bros” who raise funds through having people support their efforts, campaigns and collaboration at a global level.
Movember’s not just for men. The women that are also advocates of the campaign are called “Mo Sistas” who do the same things that Mo Bros do, except that they don’t grow moustaches. The funds raised are used for programs that are in line with their goals.
Since its birth in 2003, the program has funded 577 projects in 21 countries. This year, the campaign was participated by around 4 million men and has raised a total of SGD $ 109,365,428 according to the official website of Movember.
In Southeast Asia, the biggest boost was generated by Singapore.
