Yangon, Myanmar — Indonesia defeated Cambodia 1-0 in men’s football at the 27th SEA Games on Monday at Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
Indonesia’s only goal of the match was scored by Yandi Sofyan Munawar at the 52nd minute, according to reports.
It was the Indonesian team’s first match in group B.
In the second match of the day on Monday afternoon, host Myanmar beat Timor Leste 3-1.
Group B consists of Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Timor Leste.
In previous group matches, Myanmar was victorious over Cambodia 3-0, while Thailand defeated Timor Leste 3-1.
So at the moment, Myanmar leads the group with two wins and six points. Thailand and Indonesia each have one win and three points.
Cambodia and Timor Leste each have two losses.
Indonesia will next play Thailand on Thursday at 16:00, one day after the official opening ceremony of the biennial multisport SEA Games.
The opening ceremony is expected to draw an estimated 30,000 people, including the heads of state of each of the eleven participating countries.
This year’s 27th SEA Games features a total of 33 sports, with 460 medals up for grabs.
Host Myanmar continues to dominate the overall medal tally thus far, with 13 golds, three silvers, and six bronze.
Vietnam is in second place with six golds, three silvers, and five bronze.
Indonesia is in third place with four golds, four silvers, and six bronze.
Myanmar hosted the Games previously in 1961 and 1969 in its former capital of Yangon.
