NFL Playoff predictions 2014: New England vs Denver — The two best teams in the AFC are left, and that should give us a great American Football Conference championship game.
New England Patriots at Denver Broncos: Tom Brady and Peyton Manning meet in the playoffs for the fourth time, and it could be the last. Brady is 2-1 in playoff games against Manning, and is 10-4 overall against him.
The Patriots have been absolutely decimated with injuries this year, both offensively and defensively. Yet this past weekend they looked as impressive as anyone in their 43-22 win over the Colts, though they could hardly be recognized as the same New England team that started the season. This may be Bill Belichick’s best coaching job. He’s transformed them into a power running team. That should be an interesting twist for the Broncos to deal with.
Denver has had a lot of injuries to key players too. The injury to Denver cornerback Chris Harris is what allowed San Diego’s offence to suddenly explode in the 2nd half Sunday, and it should make things much easier for New England in the passing game too.
The opening line had Denver favored by 7, but it has gone down to 4.5 in most places. I think 7 points is just too much, even though Denver is usually very good at home.
These teams did meet on Nov 24 in New England in a thrilling game won by the Patriots 34-31 in overtime, but that game means nothing at this point.
This should be a great matchup, and either team could very well win, but I think the home field gives Denver a slight edge.
Prediction: Denver to win 31-28.
