Same-sex marriage civil unions is refers to a marriage between two people of the same-sex.
Its is characterized as redefining marriage by opponents. Same-sex marriages can be performed in a secular civil ceremony or in a religious setting.
After a couple of months, when a bill allowing same sex-marriage approved by the Congress in the religiously conservative country, gay couples rushed for a free registration for civil union.
According to Felipe Egido,”We were the FIRST couple that signed up for the Civil Union Agreement in the central city of Vina del Mar,” as he wrote after he posted a picture on social media together with his partner.
January this year the National Congress approved a bill recognizing civil unions for same-sex and opposite-sex couples, offering some of the rights of marriage.
Chile then will recognize civil unions beginning on October 2015, thus, allows same-sex couples to enjoy similar rights as straight couples.
President Michelle Bachelet, between 2006 and 2010, declared that she supports same-sex marriage and will seek to legalize it if elected president in the November 2013 presidential elections.
It was in December 2014 when a group of senators from various parties introduced a bill to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption.
Based on the survey of National Youth Institute of Chile, average of people aged between 15 and 29 supported same-sex marriage.
In other country same-sex marriage is not applicable because of its culture. However, marriages or socially-accepted unions between same-sex partners have been recorded in the history.
