12 years HIV drugs stops, French teen on check.- – Researchers says that French woman will be on check after her 12 years HIV drugs stops.
French teen is now 18, whose identity was not revealed, was infected with HIV either in utero or during childbirth.
For six weeks after birth, the teen was treated to prevent infection. The teen received a cocktail of antiretroviral medicines, known as HIV drugs from the age of three months. Her family decided to stop the treatment when she was six years old.
Dr Asier Saez-Cirion said that the teen is not considered cured but is doing perfectly well off treatment and that experts are not sure what caused her lengthy remission. ,.”We can detect HIV in the cells, but what we cannot detect is viral replication in the plasma,” he added.
According to the information presented at the 2015 International AIDS Society conference in Vancouver the virus has been undetectable in the teenager’s blood since she was 21 months old.
In the US, mostly HIV-infected mothers get AIDS medicines during pregnancy to cut the chances of passing the virus through their babies. Doctors think that teens mother did not have medication on her pregnancy and so her daughter was infected before of during birth.
The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, Anthony Fauci said, “Nevertheless, the case presents a number of possibilities for researchers seeking further progress against HIV, There’s no measurable immunological reason why the (teen) is controlling the virus, But the (teen) is obviously controlling it.”
Cases of long-term interruption are particularly rare in children. Researchers must now determine whether the teenager is one of a group of so-called “elite controllers.”
