International Champions Cup Australia 2015

Roma beat Real Madrid on penalties, International Champions Cup Australia 2015.

The opening match of the championship shook the whole arena as “the play” between AS Roma and Real Madrid rose on total thrill last Saturday.

After a goalless draw Roma overcame the La Liga giants in penalty shootouts i.e. 7-6.

Despite of aggressive start, neither side could score over a normal time. The best chance for Madrid was created by debutant Danilo, who fired a curling shout around the post. Roma players had a good run too, Francesso Totti rattled a shot against the bar.

Rudi Garcia’s men picked up two points after this win while Real Madrid earned a point too, standard point for a draw.

The thrilling encounter took place in front of fully packed spectators at the pretty spectacular Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Cristiano Ronaldo started along with the Welshman Gareth Bale, while the young Norwegian star, Martin Odegaard was also named in the playing XI. But Isco was the stand-out player of the match.

Roma had better of the things in the first half but Real Madrid came back strongly in the next half, and enjoyed much more possession of the ball in the later part of the game.

As a Real Madrid manager, the pre-season tour is the first assignment for the newly appointed Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard, former Napoli manager, have joined Bernabeau for a three-year deal. In fact, this is the golden opportunity for Benitez to tickle with the team combinations and come out with the best possible line-up before the start of 2015-16 season.
