Murder suspect nabbed -Thai police have charged a Spanish man of gruesome murder and dismemberment of his compatriot in Bangkok last week.
The suspect was on the run since his picture was made public in a press conference by Royal Thai Police. He was believed to have fled to neighboring Cambodia after his motorbike was found abandoned near the Thai border. Thus, the security officials in Thailand asked for help from their Cambodian counterparts.
After a nationwide search operation, the murder suspect was caught in a coastal city of Cambodia. The next day, he was extradited to the Kingdom of Thailand via a helicopter to stand trial. The Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest on premeditated murder and body concealment charges.
Mr. Segarra has denied any involvement in the murder of David Bernat, a consultant with a foreign company. The victim was abducted, tortured and forced to transfer a large amount of money before being killed.
A Thai woman identified as Pristina Saen-ubon was questioned during the investigation. She was spotted with Mr. Segarra in a black Isuzu pickup truck in Surin. The 22-year-old Ploy told the investigators they were in a karaoke bar in Surin’s Muang district, but he the bar on his motorcycle when his picture appeared on the TV news.
She came to know the suspect six months ago while working in Bangkok. However, she insisted she did not know anything about his activities and denied involvement in any crime.
Earlier on Sunday evening, the alleged murder suspect identified as Artur Segarra Princep was arrested at a restaurant in Sihanoukville, southwest of Phnom Penh. The 26-year-old Spaniard believed to be residing in a guesthouse for the past few days.
The first body part was discovered on Sunday in Bangkok’s Chao Phraya river. Since then six additional parts were found at different locations along the river. The forensic experts believe the victim died between 25th and 27th of January and the cause of death being suffocation. IMAGE/BangkokPost
