Update! Philippines earthquake today, Mindanao region hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake
A series of tremors hit Mindanao, 5.8 magnitude awakens the residents at 5:21 GMT with a distance of 48.0 km and hypocenter depth of 10.0 km, April 12, 2017, according to volcanoes and earthquake today registered data.
After a previous earthquake report, aftershocks occured in the same region of the main-shock but of a smaller magnitude 4.6 quake shakes ESE Pondaguitan, Mindanao Philippines.
According to report, the 5.8 tremor were felt in Valencia, Malaybalay, Cagayan De Oro and Butuan City. However, no casualties and severe damage been reported but is expecting an aftershocks. Residents had sent concern report over social media creates panic and fear.
In February 10, 2017, 6.7 magnitude quake occured in Surigao off the coast of Surigao del Norte in the Philippines Northeastern Mindanao. According to the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale the earthquake was an Intensity VII (Destructive) earthquake at maximum. In the past of ‘Philippines earthquake today’ Surigao province has been hit by a magnitude 7.2 tremor in both 1879 and and 1893.
The earthquake was recorded by PHIVOLCS on February 10, 2017 at 10:03:42 PM (UTC+8). Based on the agency, the epicenter of the 6.7 magnitude-earthquake was at 9.80°N 125.35°ECoordinates: 9.80°N 125.35°E or 16 kilometers, north west of Surigao City. The earthquake was tectonic of origin.
The most affected area in terms of PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS) was Surigao City which experienced an intensity of Intensity VII (Destructive). The United States Geological Survey reports the earthquake as having a magnitude of 6.5.

The 1897 Mindanao earthquakes occurred on 20 September at 19:06 UTC and 21 September at 05:12 UTC. The estimated epicentres of the two earthquakes are identical, lying just off the southwestern coast of Mindanao in the Philippines, south of Basilan island.
The earthquakes were originally given estimated magnitudes of 8.6 and 8.7 on the surface wave magnitude scale by Charles Richter,but these were revised downwards by Katsuyuki Abe to 7.4 and 7.5 Ms, respectively.
