Grab Indonesia promo campaign video stirs controversy on social media.
A 45 second promo video has been criticized by netizens because it was considered harassing traditional motorcycle taxi services, according to report.
Grab Indonesia promo video has pulled its initial version and replace it with a newer version.\
“We have replaced the video and hope the public can better focus on the key messages to be conveyed on the improvement of road safety for all people in Indonesia,” according to Grab Indonesia official.
Grab Indonesia official statement issued no apology from the company which is good for the controversial video views as well as the motorcycle taxi drivers which is clearly depicted in the video as a mode of transportation that is not safe,
tekno.kompas.com reports.
“Sounded really dangerous if naek motorcycles base? This grab large companies tp kok advertisingnya very unprofessional and tacky anyway …. what wear ga advertising agency?”
Netizens were shocked at the graphic ad, however, and the video was pulled late Tuesday (Sep 20). It was replaced on Grab Indonesia’s YouTube channel with a 15-second, blood-free clip.
“Grab Indonesia’s new ad is disgusting and it’s false advertising. You can’t guarantee safety from motorbike accidents no matter your record.”
In a statement later sent to media outlets, Grab’s Indonesia marketing director Mediko Azwar said: “In hindsight, we acknowledge that the graphics may have been grim and disturbing.
“We hope that those who have watched the ‘Choose Safety’ video will understand that our intention was not to shock, but to reinforce the consequences of accepting lower safety standards.” netizen comment on YouTube Grab Indonesia.
