Scientists set up animal observatories aid in earthquake prediction occurrence. Have you ever heard of animal behaviors predicting the earthquakes? It is happening on our planet Earth.
The Chinese scientists are trying to predict an earthquake strike with the help of animal observatories.
You might have heard from your ancestors that when you see strange animal behavior it would mean some sort of disaster is coming.
This belief has been around for centuries and even clear in the folklores.
Recently, Chinese seismologists have set up more than half a dozen of animal observation centers in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, a new-found method in earthquake prediction.
They will observe for changes in thousands of animals behavior, which might be a signal for a tremor. According to the reports, a park with 2,000 chickens, 200 pigs and fish ponds, has become one of the earthquake monitoring sites.
All the animals in the ecological park are under close watch with the help of cameras installed around. The staff assigned to observe the animals’ behavior is tasked to report to the seismological bureau twice a day.
One of the chief of monitoring site said that, animals sometimes become stressed before an earthquake. Therefore, they are observing groups of animals not a chicken or a fish to gather best result in relevance to their theory.
A member of another monitoring site said that animals can be as effective as technology when it comes to earthquake prediction.
Earthquakes are naturally occurring and a sudden natural phenomenon. It has been a long debate for the researchers and seismologists to find accurate ways and methods to predict the quakes.
For instance, Japan, which is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries, published a study that indicated erratic behavior in dogs, which can be used to forecast tremors in 2003.
Yanachaga National Park, Peru- where scientists also conducted a study on animal behavior in which they found significant changes in animal behavior more than three weeks before the earthquake struck the region in 2011.
Another behavioral change has been found evident to the rat species as well, in which the rodents were the first to disappear in the rainforest if unusual natural phenomenon might happen.
In fact, it was quite interesting that oftentimes scientist found out that most of the time they disappeared completely a week before the earthquake.
There are at least too many to mention, proving that animal behavioral changes is related to earthquakes’ occurrence such as catfish moving violently.
Chickens that stop laying eggs and bees leaving their hive in a panic which precisely proves animals extraordinary sensing, which allows us to think that wild and domestic creatures feel the Earth vibrate before humans or other animals can detect electrical changes in the air or smell when gas is released from the Earth.
But again earthquake prediction using animals, all of these are just theories waiting to be proven soon. Image Source
