After a year and 4 months, Pangilinan resigned as Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization effective by the end of the month.
Effective 30 September 2015, the 52 year-old Francis Pangilinan will be no longer the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization. He decided to leave the said position, rumored for his plan to run again for the Senate in 2016.
Pangilinan was appointed as Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization by President Benigno Aquino III, May 2014. He served as Senator of the Philippines from 2001, re-elected six years thereafter. A Filipino politician who believes in active citizenship. His early resignation was then accepted by the Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III.
In a text message, Francis Pangilinan said, “Yes, I have submitted my letter of resignation last week. The resignation is effective September 30 to allow for a smooth transition and for the President to choose a successor,” Tuesday. On rumors that he will run again for the Senate, he stated, “Regarding my future plans, the official announcement will come in due time.”
In a letter of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, said to Pangilinan, ” On behalf of His Excellency, President Benigno S. Aquino III, this is to inform you that your resignation is hereby accepted.” Secretary Francis Pangilinan has resigned as Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization, and President has accepted his resignation effective 30 September 2015.
“The president expressed his sincerest appreciation to Secretary Pangilinan for his contribution to the government during his stint as PAFSAM and wished him the best in his future endeavors,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr stated.
Francis Pangilinan entered politics at early age. He was the youngest elected city councilor of the Quezon City Council in 1988–1992. He then made his first mark as a young lawyer, giving free legal assistance on-air and closely monitored case progress through the television program. He was part of program Hoy Gising! over ABS-CBN where he was a co-anchor and segment host.
On April 1996, he married to actress, television personality, and singer Mega Star Sharon Cuneta. The couple then have two daughters and one adopted son.
