Protester from the country marched towards the town of Ijenda, Burundi, against Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza and his bid for a third term.

Pierre Nkurunziza , once a leader of a rebel group. He was elected as president.

Burundi is considered as one of the five poorest countries in the world, the small Central African nation shares both a history of ethnic strife and a border with Rwanda.

The country has suffered from warfare, corruption and poor access to education.

According to General Leonard Ngendakumana, “At that time, we just failed to remove Nkurunziza from power,”  “The aim is still there.” he added.

Because of the situation, United Nations,  African states and Western nations were alarmed.

Since April the country has been hit by violence since  President Pierre Nkurunziza announced to run for a third term in presidential elections.

Protesters say president Nkurunziza must be removed because the constitution limits the president to two terms, but the president’s supporters say he is eligible for a third term.

In the month of May, an attempted coup d’état  failed to depose Nkurunziza. He returned to Burundi began purging his government and arrested several of the coup leaders. Following the attempted coup causing a humanitarian emergency.

Many feared by the president’s decision to seek a third term and a crackdown by security forces and the youth wing of his ruling party responsible for dozens of recent killings, report said.
