Woman shot dead in Hollywood last Sunday while walking, authorities said the gunman motive still remains unclear.
Officer Liliana Preciado of L.A Police Department Media Relations said, shooting incident happened at McCadden Place and Sunset Boulevard at 10:10 p.m. Sunday.
The victim was identified on Monday afternoon as Carrie Jean Melvin, 30, production assistant, according to Lt. John Radtke with LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide.
Melvin was a UC Santa Cruz film graduate and worked as a bartender, she taken by medical personnel on a stretcher after being shot to death by an unidentified shooter.
According to local ABC News affiliate KABC, Melvin and her boyfriend were walking to get something to eat when a gunman approached her from behind and shot her in the back of the head, .
Witnesses said the suspect ran to a black four-door vehicle, and drove off. Police described the suspect as a black male wearing a dark clothing and a hoodie.
The boyfriend was not shot. “On the one hand, she didn’t have any known enemies. We’re looking at all angles”. police said.
Police Commander Andrew Smith told the Los Angeles Times that they were not aware of any similar shootings, they believe it was ‘an isolated incident.’.
Skaggs said “We’ve interviewed the boyfriend and there’s no indication that they had any idea there were enemies, that she would be targeted. So at this point we just don’t know,” .
“We’re going to investigate this case with everything that we have”, Skaggs added. Carrie Jean Melvin lived close the shooting scene, police said.
