Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been sacked after delivering a postgame scolding to his players on Monday at the King Power Stadium.
After Chelsea’s 2-1 loss at Leicester City, Mourinho said that the players failed to carry out his orders and it was tantamount to him. The Portuguese revealed another bitter truth that they had stopped listening to me.
“I feel my work was betrayed,” said Mourinho in a post-match statement. “Last season I did an amazing job and I brought players to a level that is not their level.”
Jose Mourinho, the most prominent figure in the world of soccer, exits Stamford Bridge for the second time. The latest firing came just seven months after the club won the English Premier League. The year 2015 has been the most disastrous of his managerial career and he paid the price for the disappointing season.
The Dutch coach Guus Hiddink linked to take over for the rest of the season as a caretaker manager. The Blues owner Roman Abramovich has now dismissed eight managers since his takeover in 2003 but he held off for as long as possible on Mourinho.
With every loss in the league, the pressure was mounting on the Lisbon-native Mourinho. He was twice fined for his behavior, and he received a one-match Stadium ban after he was banished to the stands at West Ham on 24th of October.
“His three league titles, F.A Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history,” the club said in a statement. “But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways,” the statement added.
About 11 years ago, the 52-year-old football manager made headlines in Europe when a Portuguese club won the Champions League title. After that achievement, he moved to Stamford Bridge for his first stint that lasted three seasons.
Moreover, former Porto boss has won two league titles during his tenure with Inter Milan and another league title at the Santiago Bernabeu. IMAGE/Getty Images
