Ice cave collapsed in Washington , 1 dead and 4 injured- Thick piece of ice fall down at Big four ice caves, injures people.
The popular hiking destination located on Mountain Loop Highway in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest collapsed, Monday.
The big four ice cave is about a miles northeast of Seattle, one of the most visited area for its wonderful spot, however, it was unstable, collapsing and about to give up.
Rescuers were able to give respond to the victims, confirmed the Snohomish County sheriff.
Last 2010, the Big Four Ice Caves in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest near Granite Falls, Wash was being examined. A partial collapsed, Monday, at Snohomish County was reported.
According to hospital spokeswoman, Susan Gregg , there were 3 injured, a 25-year-old man in a critical condition, were airlifted to a Seattle trauma center. A 35-year-old man, with serious injuries, airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and a 35-year-old woman in satisfactory condition.
An 11 year old girl was killed at the cave, 2010, by falling rice, was sent to an Everett, Washington, hospital.
The three patients are in serious to critical condition and they were treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for “crushing injuries” and lacerations to their heads, shoulders and legs, Gregg added.
Hikers of the cave were already warned by U.S. Forest Service, that ice caves were in their “most dangerous state” due to unseasonably warm weather condition.
Authorities and responders took action immediately. They headed to the Verlot Visitors Center, miles distance, east of Granite Falls on the Mt. Loop Highway.
Report says the hiker who died in the incident has not yet been identified.
