World Expo 2020 Bids: Izmir Turkey and Dubai UAE are strong candidates If Dubai or Izmir win, it will be the first Middle Eastern expo.
Reportedly, Turkish city of Izmir is a strong contender for the Expo 2020, previously bid for Expo 2015 but lost to Milan, Italy. Izmir faces competition from Dubai UAE, the best funded of the five bids for 2020.
According to Expobids.com, “Sources seem to indicate that Dubai has one of the best chances of the five bids.”
The following cities submitted their bid to BIE for hosting the 2020 World EXPO, originally fives cities bid for the slot for a world’s fair in 2020, with four remaining: Dubai, UAE; Ekaterinburg, Russia; Izmir, Turkey; and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Dubai also faces competition from Sao Paulo of Brazil and the Russian city of Yekaterinburg following the disqualification of Ayutthaya of Thailand on 11 June 2013.
The UAE has already secured official support from the British Government, while Turkey has secured support from South Africa, according to report.
