PAGASA spotted tropical depression might enter PAR

Tropical depression seen by PAGASA, may enter Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday.

Tuesday, 22 September, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA reported that tropical depression been tracked and may enter Philippine Area of Responsibility on Wednesday. Tropical depression will be locally named ‘Jenny’, once it enters PAR and is expected to move west-northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers.

PAGASA warned every Filipino to be alert especially areas including Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental to experienced cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms.

Chris Perez, PAGASA senior weather forecaster said, the weather disturbance will be inside the PAR by Wednesday. Located about 2,400 kilometers east of Luzon or outside the Philippine area of responsibility is seen to move slowly at 7 kilometers per hour (kph) west-northwest and it has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and maintains its current movement. It has only small chance of making landfall over any part of the country, as it moves north toward Japan. He also noted that monsoon rains will be experienced initially over Mindanao.

Gladys Saludes of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA stated, based on forecast models the tropical depression may recurve towards Japan. “It was last spotted 2,200 kilometers east of Luzon and packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and was slowly moving west-northwest. It may intensify but only as a tropical storm at most because it is weak due to forecast models.”

The spotted tropical depression by PAGASA will enhance the southwest monsoon which will induce rains. For the meantime, the rest of the country including Metro Manila will experience fair weather with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. IMAGE/PAGASA
