Newborn baby found alive at Central Mindanao University

PHILIPPINES: A newborn baby found alive in a box near the creek on Tuesday at Central Mindanao University Campus (CMU), Maramag Bukidnon in the Northern Philippines.

The newborn baby was accidentally found alive near the creek after being abandoned by his mother who is believed to be a student.

An on-duty University campus staff found the abandoned newborn baby around 5 a.m., placed inside the paper box with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached.

According to ‎Marianne Pellazar Mondigo, a hospital nurse, a man was notified upon hearing the sound of a baby crying as he was walking near the creek, behind Dinampo’s residence at Central Mindanao University campus, and was brought to the hospital.

The newborn baby found alive was abandoned by his parents near the creek behind Dinampo’s Residence, in Musuan, Maramag Bukidnon right after being born. Some speculate that the baby’s mother was a student who left on purpose.

Ms. Mondigo said that when the baby boy arrived at the hospital he was in very good condition, but with a few scratches on his arm.

The University medical team immediately initiated clinical checks when the baby was taken to the hospital. The abandoned newborn baby was three days old, and weighed 3.2kg, according to the baby’s clinical records.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was immediately notified and took over the care of the abandoned baby boy. Whoever abandoned the newborn, if found guilty, likely will face legal charges of child abandonment, DSWD stated. PHOTO courtesy of/Facebook: Urduja Liza Soriano
