A Syrian woman with a fake Greek passport has been detained from a hotel in Costa Rica.

According to local authorities, the woman identified as Maria Pirri arrived in Costa Rica on Tuesday from Argentina. After a tip off, police raided in a hotel in the Costa Rica’s capital San Jose and the suspected traveler was taken into custody without any form of resistance from her.

Greek officials have confirmed the Greek passport been reported to be lost in Greece. The woman could face up to six years in prison if found guilty of using a falsified document in the Central American nation.

The recent arrest comes two days after five Syrians were caught in Houndras trying to travel to the United States on stolen passports. The security officers at Teguicigalpa airport security checks took five men into custody on suspicion of traveling on false documents as they attempted to board a flight to San Pedro Sula.

The people traveling on fake travel documents are believed to be Syrian refugees. The western countries involved in the Syria conflict have been on high alert for possible attacks since the killings in Paris last Friday and the mid-air explosion of a Russian passenger jet leaving Egypt.

The Islamic State group based in Iraq and Syria has claimed the Paris attacks and the bombing of Russian plane. The jihadi extremist group, a self-proclaimed caliphate, is a growing threat in the region as it control over territory occupied by 10 million people in Syria and Iraq. The group also operates in other parts of the world including North Africa and South Asia.

Many analysts believe that the aim behind these attacks is to create chaos and panic among the Muslim minority living in the European countries. The terrorists carried out the Paris carnage so the Muslims living in the non-Muslim nations will be hated and pushed in a corner. Thus, the Islamist jihadists can trigger a new wave of recruits in their organization. IMAGE/Reuters
