Nicolas Otamendi joins Man City on a five-year deal

Manchester City announced the signing of defender Nicolas Otamendi on a five-year contract on Thursday.

The Argentine professional footballer completed the move from Valencia on a five-year deal worth £32m. With Otamendi’s arrival at Etihad Stadium, City has spent beyond the £100m mark in the current transfer window. The center-back becomes club’s third summer signing following the arrival of England internationals Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph. He will wear number 30 shirt.

The 27-year-old recognized as one of the best central defenders across all football leagues and he was the only Valencia player named in the La Liga Team of the Year due to his remarkable performances. Moreover, the athlete was also part of the Argentina team that reached the Copa America final this summer.

“I am here to give my best, to fight game by game and push City to the highest peaks for as long as possible, and I wish we will be able to win several cups and title,” said Otamendi. “That’s the most important. To be here inside a club that looks so wonderful from the outside is a dream,” he added.

Former Porto player spent just one season at Mestalla and made his debut in the Spanish top level on August 23, 2014 against Sevilla. He scored his first goal for Valencia on 4 October, helping to a 3-1 home success over Atletico Madrid. The Argentine international scored the memorable goal in a 2-1 home win over Real Madrid, ending their opponents’ club record 22-match winning streak as a result.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said, “As a footballer, Nicolas has all the qualities to be a success in the Premier League – he’s strong, he’s excellent in the tackle and he’s very good technically.” IMAGE/dailymail.co.uk
