MERS Virus outbreak is not yet a global health emergency. The decision was made after a meeting of WHO’s expert group on the Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS.
The Committee emphasized that its concern about the situation had significantly increased and strongly urged WHO and Member States to take immediate steps to improve national policies for infection prevention and control-
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus called “Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus” (MERS-CoV).
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has reported a total of 536 cases of Mers since 2012, the majority inside Saudi Arabia, and 145 deaths, WHO update.
MERS virus outbreak, second U.S. case of the mysterious virus MERS has been confirmed. The Florida patient represents the second confirmed case of MERS brought into the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
“So far, all the cases have been linked to countries in the Arabian Peninsula. This virus has spread from ill people to others through close contact, such as caring for or living with an infected person. However, there is no evidence of sustained spreading in community settings.”
The MERS virus outbreak as of 14 May 2014, MERS-CoV cases have been reported in several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Kuwait, Oman, the Philippines, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States, according to report.
