Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh ties knot to Amrita Rai

Sunday, Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh ties knot with Television anchor Amrita Rai in Chennai late last month.

  • Amrita Rai confirmed the news on social networking site Facebook.

Amrita Rai said, “I would like to share with my friends that I and Digvijaya Singh have married in a solemn ceremony, as per the Hindu rites. We have also later registered our marriage.” she added. “I have married Digvijaya Singh for love. Therefore, I have already requested him to transfer all his property and belongings to his son and daughters. I only want to embark on this new journey with him, working towards a dignified, professional career.”

Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh ,68, is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He is also currently a General Secretary of the Indian National Congress party’s All India Congress Committee. Previously, he had served as the 9th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, a central Indian state, for two terms from 1993 to 2003. Prior to that he was a minister in Chief Minister Arjun Singh’s cabinet, during 1980–84.

Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh was born at Indore in the erstwhile princely the state of Holkar (now a part of Madhya Pradesh) of British India, on 28 February 1947. His father, Balbhadra Singh, was the Raja of Raghogarh (under Gwalior State), presently known as Guna district of Madhya Pradesh and was a former Jana Sangh MP from the Raghogarh constituency. He was educated at Daly College in Indore and the Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science, where he completed his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.

He was married to Asha Singh, who died in 2013, and has four daughters and a son. In April 2014, he confirmed that he was in a relationship with a Rajya Sabha TV anchor Amrita Rai. He is a Hindu.

TV anchor Amrita Rai ,44, also dismissed the talk of age difference between Singh and her. She said,“I know, questions have been raised and will be raised on the age difference between us. But I sincerely feel that at my age I know what is good for me and I can take my decisions as per my own wisdom. We live in a modern, progressive India, and the constitutional and legal framework has empowered me to decide about my life and my life’s choices.
