Filipe Luis – Finally Chelsea have sold the defender back to Atletico Madrid.
The Brazil International will rejoin Atletico on a four-year contract after being part of the squad that won a Premier League title and the Capital One Cup. He spent just one domestic season at Stamford Bridge since his departure from Spain.
According to media reports, it was speculated that Atletico is willing to pay around £15m to bring him back at Vicente Calderon.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho hinted this transfer a week ago in a press conference.
The 29-year-old made his debut for the Blues as a substitute against Everton last year in August and made his first start against German team Schalke in the Champions League.
Luis tweeted: “Happy! Glad to be coming home and to be a new Atleti player.”
Jose Luis Perez, Atletico’s director, praised the signing of Luis and labeled him as one of the most talented wingers in the world.
“He already knows our club and our attacking style of play so he will adapt quickly,” Mr. Perez added.
Luis was seen in Chelsea shirt in 26 matches in all competitions and scored just one goal in a Capital One Cup. He was able to make it to the starting XI in only 9 of these games.
“We wish him all the best for the future,” a statement on Chelsea’s website read.
This will be his second spell with the club that is known for their attacking football since the Argentine manager Diego Simeone took over the team. Luis spent four years at red and white club in his first stint, where he won the La Liga title in 2013-14 season.
Recently, Luis featured in all Brazil’s matches at the Copa America before they lost in a quarter-final to Paraguay in Penalty shoot-out. IMAGE/dailystar/ file photo taken during a press conference at 2014 Champions League.
