Certain barangay captain beheaded and two coastguards abducted by Islamist terrorist group.
Rodolfo Boligao, elected as Barangay Captain of Aliguay, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, for the term of 2010-2013 was found dead and reportedly beheaded, Tuesday at Maimbung, Sulu with a handwritten note identifying the victim. Baligao was allegedly kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf together with two Coast Guard staff in May.
Abu Sayyaf abducted barangay captain Boligao together with two coast guard, Pagaling and Villaruz, May 4 at a beach resort in Aliguay Island, Dapitan City- in Zamboanga del Norte in the southern Philippines. The militant group then posted a video online of the covered head victims asking for help. The three hostages were begging ransoms, their abductors stand by threatening to behead them.
In the video, one victim said, “I am Rod Pagaling and a coastguard… We are calling the government to help us, especially the president… President Aquino help us… Help us… They will kill us… Have mercy on us… To the officials and government to our family help us,” in native Tagalog.
The government response to the video as Communications Secretery Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a text message to media , “Government maintains its no-ransom policy.”
Reason Boligao was beheaded by the Abu Sayyaf, his family as well as the government wasnt able to provide the ransom asked by the said group. The Abu Sayyaf claimed kidnapped Boligao with Seaman 1st Class Rod Pagaling and Seaman 2nd Class Gringo Villaluz, who were assigned to check boats ferrying tourists in the island and just visited Boligao.
The militant Islamist group, Abu Sayyaf is known for its violent actions. They are participant in Moro insurgency in the Philippines, the Moro attacks on Malaysia, and the Global War on Terrorism, been involved in many kidnapping and bombing.
