International Champions Cup USA 2015 – Manchester United thrashed Barcelona 3-1 in their pre-season tour match in California on Saturday.
The English Premier League team continued the winning momentum so far in the tournament and currently is unbeaten in the championship. These positive results will serve as a confidence booster for the Reds ahead of the next season, beginning in two weeks time.
Wayne Rooney put his team on top when he headed the ball to the top left corner of goal in the 8th minute and ended an eight match drought.
In the first four minutes into the second half, Phil Jones of Reds was shown the yellow card for a bad foul. Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj each added second-half goals to ensure the victory over the European Champions Barcelona.
Barcelona dominated the possession at Levi’s Stadium but it was Van Gaal’s men who struck first. United looked more impressive going into the second half.
La Liga champions Barcelona struck back with a fabulous goal from Rafinha in the 90th minute assisted by Sergi Roberto but it was too late to bounce back from a 2-1 deficit as United took the score line to 3-1 a minute later.
Manchester United is at their best and having a successful pre-season tour with the victories over Club America of Mexico and Major Soccer League club San Jose Earthquakes.
Barca went into the encounter without the star forwards Lionel Messi and Neymar, along with Javier Mascherano and Dani Alves were absent in the midfield.
Luis Suarez of Barcelona got a couple of opportunities in the first half but couldn’t cash in on the scoring chances and another goal was overturned by an offside call in the latter half.
Barcelona came off a win against the local side Los Angeles Galaxy on Tuesday and will play the last match on the U.S. soil before they return to Europe. IMAGE/telegraph
