Intense earthquake hit again the Island of Solomon, no reports of damage.
Solomon Island again experienced strong earthquake, fortunately no lives lost and no reports of any damage. The Island is a sovereign country consisting of many islands in Oceania. For past years, Island experienced many disaster including earthquakes and tsunami.
The Island hit by a major earthquake on 2 April 2007 and followed by a large tsunami. For at least 52 died and destroyed more than hundreds of homes and left thousands of people homeless. Having several active and dormant volcanoes, seen one reason for the incident.
Currently, Island hit by intense quake, Meteorological Department stated that quake was located at 9.4 degrees south and 157.8 degrees east, 175 km southeast of Gizo, Solomon Islands and 4,617km southeast of Semporna, Sabah. Continues monitoring and update will be provided.
U.S. Geological Survey said, strong earthquake of magnitude 6.6 struck the Solomon Islands archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, Wednesday. Though the it was a strong earthquake, there have been no reports of damage following a strong earthquake early this morning, says Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office.
The Islands is a constitutional monarchy with the Queen of Solomon Islands. Currently the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II and Manasseh Sogavare is the Prime Minister.The islands’ ocean-equatorial climate is extremely humid throughout the year.
Numerous earthquakes been noted on the Island. This includes the 6 February 2013 disaster that demolished rows of houses, leaving countless victims unidentified and allegedly deceased. Thousands of people subject to consequences of the environmental disaster. Many had utterly vanished and high percentage of fatalities. With magnitude of 8.0, activated a tsunami.
Another earthquake hit on 12 April 2014, a magnitude of 7.6 reported to hit the area of the Solomon Islands and 6.9 on 10 July 2015. IMAGE/AFP
