UPDATED: Punjab attack, battle with terrorists in India’s Punjab has ended after 12 hours. Suspected militants fired at a bus station, also entered police barracks in Punjab.
- On the outskirts of a northern town bordering Pakistan early Monday, killing nine people and wounding several others, police said.
The terrorists came in a white Maruti-Suzuki car in army uniform entered India at the Hiranagar border in Jammu early this morning and opened fire at a bus before attacking a police station in Punjab’s Gurdaspur.
Indian police have killed the terrorists who stormed into a police station in the northern state of Punjab, ending a 12-hour-long gun battle that left at least nine people dead.
The casualties included four civilians and two policemen, said HS Dhillon, a senior Punjab police officer.
Five bombs were also found on a railway track near the site of the siege in Dinanagar, a small town located around 10 miles from the border. A police officer has told the Associated Press that the attackers are believed to have come from Indian-administered Kashmir.
Police sources said the attackers had entered India from Pakistan a couple of days ago in the troubled state of Jammu and Kashmir, to the north.
